Can a police officer be filmed without consent? Do you have to apply for a filming permit if you are shooting on the street with a tripod? Are royalties due for a barely recognizable piece of music playing on location? At some point, documentary filmmakers will have to deal with fundamental legal questions of this kind. The lawyer Ulf Dobberstein answers some of these points in a workshop on April 6th at the FilmArche and then offers an overview of what is a legal obligation for documentaries and how such regulations should be dealt with. After the lecture, participants can present a film project for which they need legal advice.

Ulf Dobberstein is a lawyer specializing in copyright, media and contract law, founded the “Deutscher Medienrechtstag e.V.” association in 1997 and has been legal counsel at the German Academy for Television since 2013.
