How To… Soziale Nachhaltigkeit - How we can create good working conditions on young talent film sets
Socially acceptable working conditions are being increasingly tested in the film industry. With young talent productions, however, it often seems difficult to even stay within the law, not to mention good and sustainable working conditions or sufficient budget. Too little money meets fundamentally hierarchical structures on the filmset, and more often also inexperience. That increases the pressure on set enormously and can lead to unpleasant situations. So how can we create working conditions and surroundings that not only strengthen the team and improve the team’s readiness but moreover also becomes an enriching experience for everyone involved - and, in the end, also create a great film?
That’s what we want to work out together in this one-day workshop. The first step will be to work out the problem areas, their origins and intersections. In a second step, we will develop a common code of conduct for social working conditions on set, and in a final step, concrete tools to realize these goals.
About: Ausnahmezustand Film?! was launched in 2022 by Fritzie Benesch and Judith Frahm as part of their production studies at the Film University to talk more about social sustainability in the film industry and to bring up-and-coming and established industry representatives into conversation. They regularly host panels and workshops at various film festivals, including the Max Ophüls Prize, the Sehsüchte Festival and the Berlinale.
